    Greetings from Palm Springs, CA

I am staying in Palm Springs for the month and brought along my 4x5, developer and lots of Ilford.

I do not know if there is any kind of large format community here - the people at Camera West suggested there was not. I thought there might be a meet up of some kind.

Still scouting but there seems plenty to shoot here.

Let me know if there is anyone here who would like to meet for coffee.

A nice drive is Palm Springs to Idyllwild to the no cage desert zoo

I almost got hit with green gorilla shit at the SD Zoo

    Try www.meetup.com.

You'll find photographers, but large format? Probably not. Probably just old farts trying to figure out how to use their new digital contraptions -- DAGNABBIT!!!

No idea about meeting up, but it's a great base of operations for exploring Joshua Tree National Park on a day trip. The Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is a gem and is worth the trip is as well.

I was out that way right after Christmas, and took a one-day bromoil printing workshop with Dan Dozer.
(He's a member here, look him up under "Resources" sub-forum.)
A highly recommended workshop, especially if you are into alternative processes!
There are also some very photogenic Indian Trails on the South end of town.
The Visitors Center on the North end of town is very interesting, architecturally...designed by Albert Frey.
It is very near the Aerial Tramway.
    Have fun!

In the immediate area some of the palm canyons could make for fun, and iconic subject matter. Joshua Tree is worth a full day, if not 2 or 3.

If you have the time and the inclination, an overnighter in Mojave National Preserve would be photographically rewarding. It's a drive, but the Kelso Dunes, Granite Mountains, and joshua tree forests (the unburnt ones) are all wonderful.

How long are you staying for? I was in the mood to go to Joshua Tree soon. I'm about maybe 2 hours from Joshua Tree and Palm Springs is 1.5 hrs from me. This weekend does not look good, rain, rain, and flood and floods.

What are you talking about? Anyone can take pictures of the desert when it's dry and sunny. This is the time to make pictures no one else can. I was once in the Superstition Wilderness in Arizona in a snow storm that dumped a foot of snow on all the Saguaro cactus. Quite a rare sight to see -- and photograph.
