Focusing loup

I ordered a Carson Loupe off Amazon one at 7X and one at 4.5 X hope one of them will work, thanks for all your replies.

The carson loupes are fine -- if they have the clear base put some black electrical tape around it. Check the focus on the glass without a lens as other articles have mentioned.

I actually ordered three of them a 4.5 x a 5.5 x and a 7X I'm going to try all three and see which one works best for me you took the words right out of my mouth I was thinking to put electrical tape around the outside edge of it to cut the light out.

You can remove the scale and just use the loupe.

For years i used one of those ubiquitous fantastic plastic Agfas. I was on a very tight 8x10 budget and didn't know any better
Would I recommend it?
No, other than it works OK and is cheap and gives you a base line to help you decide what you really want in a loupe.
Ron Wisner preferred to use a linen tester, others prefer dime store reading glasses. They'll all do the job if you can get them to work for you.

FWIW I eventually settled on a Silvestri tilting 6x, which at today's prices, would have been a budget buster for me,
but when they were first introduced went for a merely whopping $79. Today it seems like quite a bargain.
