The whole problem is that you need to be on the road awhile to figure out what kind of car you really like to drive; and not all roads are the same. Even a Ferrari is useless on a 4WD track due to its low clearance. Take you best guess and stick with it long enough to figure out if you're headed the right direction or not. All the really good digital printers I personally know already understood what look they wanted, because the each had decades of darkroom experience first.

Thanks Drew, i will be choosing that road real soon. I guess when you dont have a darkroom at home and no space for one it makes it harder. I can drive 15 miles each way everytime i want to print, so several factors going into my choice of road.

I don't have a darkroom either and process everything in an outside lab. I scan my film so I can post them on the web. You might consider that first as well.

Later, you can buy a printer to print from the scan or purchase it outside in a lab. Or use chemical printing in that darkroom 15 miles away.

Well, that made it simple. Good luck with digital.

Seems like the right decision to me.
