Desire To Not See Posts By Specific Individuals

If there are posters (e.g. BandeauRouge, lenshustle) who we feel are cluttering threads we are interested in with troll posts, is there some way to not see them? I have added these usernames to my "ignore list" but am unclear what the ignore list actually does. Thanks.
Edit, 2 hours later: I have seen in several threads that "ignore" works, and I see how it does it. No need to respond to my question. I would cancel this post, but don't see a way to do so.
