Lens Making with Optical Glass Cubes and Water Jet Cutter

Schott and other optical glass makers sell their glass as raw glass cubes. And there are water jet cutting machines can cut glass transparent.
I thought we can cut least two different refractive index and abbe numbers cubes with water jet beam and make air cuts in to glass .
Can we use air and glass combinations as lenses ? I think we can cut horizontal and vertical cut combinations and we can make lenses.
But I dont know which free software optimizes the design as it is ?
What is the name of that technology or did I invent it ?
