    The Phoenix of Philm

A friend just sent me an email with screen shots, if that is the correct term, of a Kodak thread from twitter. I can't tell from it whether the dates are from Jan and Feb or more recent; someone who uses twitter can enlighten us. In any case, Kodak says it has hired more than 300 people to keep up with demand for 35mm. To paraphrase the poet, if 35mm is here, can LF be far behind? Well, yes, it can, but I am happy to hear the news anyway.

I doubt it will destroy exposed and processed film. But digital files might go bye bye. Don't know about what is written to CDROM, though. Not an engineer. Of course any equipment that might read the 0s and 1s would probably be toast.

As soon as I read the first post...I begin fantasizing that Kodak B+W sheet films will come down in price to equal that of Ilford's - so that choice would need never to be based on cost. Wouldn't that be great? (then again...what if Ilford's prices came up to equal Kodak's? )

Don't provoke nightmares and anxiety, please.
I would survive on FOMA and still enjoy it but not quite as much.

Eh that's a completely different market. Amateur LF users were not keeping X-Ray film around.

"Cool" young people who don't visit this forum or PHOTRIO. Many of them don't even want the negatives back; they just post the scans to "social" media.

Watch Kodak raise their film prices so that they can afford to pay for these 300 new employees
But... I would like to see them go back to 25 sheet boxes, and NOT adjust the price by much!

I continue to talk to young folks who love film and are usually very interested in extending into the darkroom to make REAL prints. The issue is always 1) cost of equipment and 2) location to put equipment. There were a couple of community darkrooms in Atlanta but I think Covid knocked them all out. The other issue is that color film is exceedingly popular and darkroom printing from said film is more challenging for the newcomer, especially with regard to equipment. I would say in the local community here about 80% are shooting color primarily. I don't think anyone is tossing negatives - I've heard mention of labs to avoid as they don't return said negatives.

Tomorrow we have another community film meetup / shoot. Last one was in July:
