This is one of my images so I can let you know a little bit more about the choices I made. I shot this on a local beach and there was a slight breeze so I was trying to keep the shutter speed up a little more than I would normally do, this as much as anything was why I was shooting at f11. F11 is about as open as I am prepared to go in my images. I have generally found if I open more than that too much of the sitter is out of focus and although they look good on instagram, they fall apart if you want to make a reasonable sized print.
I'd scouted out the area a few days before and picked this location specifically because I could create a feeling of depth with the background. The image is very slight cropped but only to correct the verticals.
Not just aperture used for exposure (f11, image maker's choice for their image goals)... Composition is part of what makes this image work. Note the purple arrows added, green lines and circle around the face. How all these image elements draws the eye to the gal in this portrait. Slight crop results in an effectly slightly longer lens focal lenght than 210mm, likely closer to ~250mm.
