"Fear does not prevent death, Fear often prevents living"..

How strong might be any given individual's emotional reaction be to "Fear".. This treads on the deep topic of personality traits and LOTs more..

Change is constant, Change is a given.. With change is uncertainty.. How comfy might any given individual be with uncertainty?

As for failure, failure should be considered a means for growth, learning and more.

Great thread. In my non-LF work, I am learning to use a fisheye lens. I’ve realized the need to take it out and “fail.” It’s so different than what I’m used to that it will take a while to see how it sees.

    If you're uncertain, bracket.

The way I learned to nail my exposures was to refuse to bracket. Did that scare the crap out of me? Yes, it did. But it also improved my exposures quite a bit. Better than I usually got from either bracketed shot. My fear of failure to properly expose lasted a few months, then exposing a single shot of film became my normal. The money and time I saved enabled me to make more photographs. Which in turn improved my methodology even more.

Because in the end, the more photographs we make, the better we become at making photographs.

    Re: Uncertainty vs. Failure

Very interesting thread...and also personally as my own process of (failure/uncertainty) reconciliation has been somewhat co-opted by the consistently uncertain outcomes of my seascape time exposures - and although I only consider a very small percentage of these photos to be in any way "successful," the remainder of these are by no means "failures," as there are simply too many variables completely beyond my control, and beyond my ability to predict (much less pre-conceive) visually - although I am getting better at this!

As only death and taxes are held to be certainties - it would seem that certain outcomes are best avoided.
