...so interesting to see the same subject from different vantage points - with the second image seeming, to me, a bit more dynamic...like a creature crawling/struggling out from under the rocks. I like them both about equally.

Edit - ps: your Chinatown photo must've popped up before I posted my above comment. Wow - lots going on in that image...a shrink would have a field day I think!

John - yes! More motion/dynamism in the second image is what I was going for.

I can never resist a good shop window self-portrait. The small area of darkness I could see my reflection in drew me.

    Thanks Dugan!

Another from Death Valley, after the sun was high and it was over 110 F. My Hasselblad was on the ground, at close-focus distance with the 80mm and a red filter:

Thanks tuco! Yes it was a bit crazy. I calculated my stats:

    7567.3 miles driven
    193.98 gallons of gas used
    $5.30 average price per gallon
    39.01 miles per gallon average

Here's something from Yosemite's Tunnel View. And it might need a bit of explanation! Yosemite to me was/is a mecca, and I knew many of the locales from famous pictures. I also knew I likely wouldn't be breaking any ground with my images from there. I would characterize my feelings towards Yosemite as "romantic." I specifically bought some soft-focus filters for this trip, wanting to "romanticize" the view. Here is one of them:

    Hasselblad 503cx / 80mm / Tiffen Pro-Mist 3

I'm glad I held onto my prius. Not as much storage capacity as an SUV, but for times like these with (California) gas prices, I'm glad I've held onto it.

Looks like you've had a great trip, thanks for sharing your shots from along the way

I admire good gas mileage and a safe driver

Glad you are back home safe and sound

That is some serious driving and image making

    Good for you!

Oh yeah, so I mentioned my slow leak that I got patched. On the last day driving back I had one more unfortunate event. A minivan about 5-6 car lengths ahead of me I guess hit a rock just right and it shot out behind and diagonal at incredible speed, and whacked my windshield in mere milliseconds. Put a tennis ball-sized spiderweb of cracks in the windshield - total loss. Definitely pissed on that one. I think they saw it happen because they gunned it and rocketed away to make sure I couldn't get their plate, though I don't think I could actually do much with it. Ultimately it was an accident. Will have to talk to my insurance, but I'm thinking I'm just going to have to bite the bullet on a replacement which will likely be about the cost of my deductible.

Often, the deductible doesn't affect windshield replacement. Check with your broker. Great shots and a great trip. Congrats. Waiting to see more. I like the Kubriske Point shot.
