What are we allowed to talk about in the Lounge?

You can talk about the weather all you want. As soon as someone tries to turn it into a thread about global warming, it's done.

The guidelines aren't an invitation to see how far one can push without violating the letter of the law. The Lounge is for small talk and for out-of-scope photographic topics. It's not a place for axe-grinding about public policy or about controversial social or political issues more generally, no matter how righteous the cause nor how strongly one feels about it. Please just don't go there.

We volunteer our effort as moderators to facilitate sharing of information about large format photography. When monitoring off-topic discussions we reserve the right to err on the side of closing a thread sooner rather than later, if we think that's needed to avoid a big time-sink on something that does not further the purposes of the Forum.

But there was nothing political in that link… just valid statistics pertinent to the topic of heat- related dangers. Not much at all about global warming. In this case it seems more of an over-reaction that borders on tyrannical. Sorry, but that’s how I see it.

If there were other (deleted) posts, I might change my opinion.

I agree with Brian, nothing political there, just stats on heat related deaths, and some information on keeping safe in hot weather that seem pertinent here:

"The population of adults aged 65 and older, which is expected to continue to grow, has a higher-than-average risk of heat-related death. Children are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illness and death, as their bodies are less able to adapt to heat than adults, and they must rely on others to help keep them safe."

I will disagree, Brian. There was what could be conceived as a thinly veiled anti-climate change statement made, which caused the gov't link to be posted...so it was definitely leaning that way.

I'm assuming someone complained. Which would also be a political statement. In fact more political than anything posted in the thread.
