How often do you print? Do you stock way more paper than you can use in a year? Storing paper in sub freezing conditions and removing to use then refreezing can cause damage to the emulsion. Think long and hard before you drop money you don't really need to spend.

I bought a Frigidaire many years ago but found that the freezer compartment took up too much room. A little research and I came across a Danby unit (iirc bought at Costco) that was all refrigerator compartment. The Frigidaire was relegated to overflow food.

Rick, since I know that I have limited time for photography, I don't buy a lot. I did buy the mentioned 50 sheets of 11x14 a year and a half ago, which is my main concern. The basement is 50-65 in the winter most of three seasons, so I'm just looking for a bit more cooling, which a fridge will handle. In addition, I have on hand at most three 100-sheet boxes of 8x10, and some film in 4x5, 120, and 35, but again, not a lot, and the film concerns me much less.

    Philip,

I'd go with a small refrigerator, maybe even without the tiny freezer compartment at the top. I got one for cheap at one of the big box hardware stores. You likely don't need to keep your film/paper frozen; just cool so it lasts some years. Refrigeration alone should keep your paper usable for many, many years. Black-and-white film too.

And, if you have some extra room after stocking it with all your film and paper, you can use it as an auxiliary drink cooler (that's what mine is mostly used for )

Wine fridges have shelves and temperature controls for upper and lower sections. Find a scratch and dent model on sale. I'm not sure you need to "freeze" your paper. Also Keep your plastic bags so your next batch of paper can be split into smaller units. Then you are not thawing the entire batch of paper with each printing session.

I have no current intentions of freezing my paper. I did that when I was a pro and stocking more paper, as well as color film, since our house has no central AC. A mini fridge is all I need. Thanks for the suggestions.

I just picked up an almost new "dorm fridge" for $30 on craigslist. Small freezer, film fits on the door, no problem with 11x14 paper. I don't have much stock of anything, but it works for me and the price was right. Your mileage may vary. Freezer were available also, no way to store beer
