Re: How can I construct an inexpensive accent-light holder?

I appreciate your interest. I have ordered the lab clamp I linked above. As indicated, I had to keep the budget austere, and the device needs to clamp onto the skinny top section of my PIC stand and allow changing the angle of the flashlight precisely, both of which this will do, for $12.

Again,I'll post back when I have an example to show, maybe best in the setup and the shot thread.

Well, the pivoting mic clip is under 10 bucks, and the (useful) boom stand can be $20-$25 new, with fairly precise swivel/rotation positioning, so a good buy... But some stands are better/worse, so select carefully...

I like the cast base type (smaller footprint) but the 3 leg type works well on set... I also like them better than c-stands for small light stuff like flags, diffusers etc without the overkill of big heavy stands...

Steve, thank you. I have a mic stand, since I do some recording occasionally, but it is heavier and bulkier than my old PIC stands mentioned in my OP. One or two of those are a simple carry to someone's home, and with the lab clamps, it's a small package. I got the PIC stands back in the 1970s and they are still in service. One came with nylon height-setting screws, but I naturally replaced them. as I was writing this, it just occurred to me to get some DIpIt and treat the leg tips to make them stay in place on floors better. Thank you!

I would sometimes use a Jorgenson spring loaded hand operated clamp, the clamp end has orange rubber gaskets. The end that.I would squeeze, has a hole in it. I used that with a fastener to mount my flash. The other end I would find a place to use the clamp. I also used pocket wizards to remotely fire the flash units. Try Home Depot as they may have the clamps.

Just an idea I used that maybe would help you.
