    modern 360mm lens for 11x14

Have been looking at the following for shooting 11x14 B&W

    Fuji EBC A 360mm f/10 lens
    Nikkor-W 360mm f/6.5 lens
    Fujinon W 360mm f/6.3 lens

Size not a problem. I'm assuming that they all run about the same $$$ but I could be wrong.

    Experience or suggestions wanted.

    thanks in advance

What about the 355 G-Claron? That should work decently, and will be slightly lighter in wt than typical 360 studio lenses. It's in a no. 3 shutter. Although the Fuji 360 A is of similar optical design, due to its no. 1 shutter there will be a bit of mechanical vignetting to the image circle, making it impractical for 11X14 if any kind of movements are involved; it is, however, a great 8x10 lens.

Re: modern 360mm lens for 11x14

I have the FujiW 360/6.3. It's a heavy lens to be sure, but any 11x14 worth its salt can handle it. At infinity, I find I need to use it at f16 or smaller aperture to get the corners in sufficiently on 11x14. That surprised me a little, but I have worked with it with no problems. I appreciate the extra light hitting the GG when focusing under the redwoods, compared to an f10 lens or f11(my RD Artars).

PS -- I have used a the 355mm Drew mentioned. Nice 11x14 lens.

Though not a “modern” lens, a 14 in. Commercial Ektar looks great on 11x14.

    +1 355mm G Claron.

Covers 12x20’ so plenty of room. Easy enough to find. Relatively cheap.

Brilliant images on my 7x17 (roughly equivalent IC as 11x14).

There's also the Symmar and Symmar-S 360mm, similar to the other f5.6 plasmats but likely cheaper. I bought a convertible 360 Symmar on this forum not so long ago for a reasonable price. If shooting B&W, I don't know if anyone could tell them all apart.

There's also the newer Fujinon CM-W 360mm f6.5. It has the same image circle as the W 360mm f6.3 -- 485mm -- but has a full air-spaced 6/6 design instead of 6/4. Both have the same 86mm filter thread.

Re: modern 360mm lens for 11x14

As mentioned, the 355 G-Claron has monster coverage, at least when stopped way down. I've used the 360 Apo-Symmar on 11x14 - the image circle is large enough to allow decent room for movement. Note that at 360mm the maximum aperture is f/6.8 rather than the f/5.6 of the shorter FLs in the series. But anyway, the 355 G-Claron is quite a bit smaller/lighter.

Surprisingly, the Apo-Sironar-N and -S are the odd men out here - for whatever reason, both have smaller specified image circles than their Fuji/Nikon/Schneider counterparts. Even the -S is specified for only 68 degrees of coverage, unlike the shorter FLs in the series, which are all 75 degrees.
