tricking imacon software to scanning higher ppi?

This is not a large format question, but I thought someone might know here:

I got one of those full frame 35mm imacon holders from Ebay, the instructions on the page state that the highest res you can use with that holder is 3200....but I feel like there has got to be a way to trick the software to scan at ether 6300 or 8000. I think it's stuck on 3200 because the side by side openings on the holder equal the hole for 120 film.

google led me to this from 10 years ago:

But alas it does not seem to work for me....Anybody have any tips?

I'm not really sure I understand but...
At least my Imacon (The Flextight III) has a fixed upper limit on 8000 pixels in width. This can be scaled to any format.
So it matters which way the film is oriented. To get maximum resolution you should scan with the short end first (8000 pixels in less distance).

The downside of this is that you get less light per pixel and therefore a little bit less dynamic range compared with scanning the long edge first.

    Does that make sense?

Thanks, Yes, My holder is orientated vertically, so the short side of the film is scanned first. I can't seem to get the resolution to go higher than 3200 with this holder. I don't think if you scale above 100% if you are truly capturing that information.

My holder has two parallel strips with a divider between.

You might try contacting B23 in Copenhagen. He knows everything about these scanners and can supply parts and do repairs. I bought a new motherboard for my Precision III and he was most helpful.

You won't be able to get to the 8000ppi limit with those film holders if they are two 35mm frames side by side. In order to get the maximum, the center of the scan-able area is the only area utilized. It has to do with the way the lens and sensor are configured, it's more like an enlarger. See page 19 of the manual. The scanner can only get to the max ppi of 120 film as the two 35mm frames side by side give you a total width much greater that a 35mm frame in portrait orientation.

Resolution on the Imacon directly relates to the width of the aperture on the holder you want to scan - thus you can scan 120 at 6300 or 8000 by shift & stitch using the 135 holder. Rule of thumb is divide 8000 by width of holder aperture to get maximum resolution you can use.

Jimmy Schipper Bjaaland was the former Service and Production Manager at Hasselblad. He obtained all the parts that Hasselblad had when they discontinued support for the Imacon scanners. We'll be ok as long as the spare parts hold out...
