Seems like a well thought out plan.. We'll see how it works in real life.

Some other photo sharing / social networks seem to be taken over by porn because the hosting is free and unmoderated and the ad revenue is real. Flickr seems to imply they understand that and being less dependent on ad revenue (because of subscription benefits) and hosting less anonymous freeloader stolen content.

I would bet their strict limit on free accounts sharing unlisted photos is an effort to reduce the use of their system for the worst of illegal content (such as involving children) that is always trying to fly below radar. Not only would this be a reason as the right thing to do, it reduces their current risk/caseload responding to law enforcement. It could also be useful as content sharing businesses prepare for potential section 230 changes and it's risks to their business model.

    Nothing - I think.
Free accounts can have max 50 private pictures and no moderate or restricted pictures.
I am a free account user and this doesn't interfere with my usage.

I only now post pictures on Flickr. I then link or copy photos from it to here and other photo forums rather than store them on multiple sites. It just makes it easier. Plus I find their display very nice and easy to edit, annotate and download pictures. For me, Flickr is very powerful. I pay for the pro because I don't like ads and there are some other features of pro I find nice such as providing statistics for views, likes etc. But you can probably do fine with the free Flickr too.

Alan, that’s the only reason I also use Flickr.
