And it's a Canon 1000!
Got a good price on a new printer with 100% full ink set, the 300 was only $100 less in this offer.
Thanks for everyone's help and thoughts on the subject!

That's great, Ari. I look forward to hearing how it works out for you.

Thanks, Peter.
The printer's here, it's about as big as my 4880, but with everything tucked in, it takes up far less room.
The 4880 also had a roll paper mechanism at the rear, the Canon doesn't.
It was a heavy and large box to bring from the store to my back door and down to the basement.
Don't move it alone if you're not in good shape, not that I'm one to talk, I just had nobody available to help.
Thanks to Oren for pointing me to Keith Cooper, as his review describes the set-up procedure in great detail. I'll follow it closely.
Here's the elephant and mouse:
May it serve you long and well!
Thanks, guys.
Kiwi, I'll do that. I have a couple of recent prints from the dearly-departed 4880 that will be interesting to compare.
Here's a basic print comparison, Epson 4880 on top, Canon 1000 on bottom.
Both printed on Canson Baryta from Photoshop using the same paper profiles.
No adjustments made to either, just a straight print.
This is the most dramatic difference of the 3 comparison prints I made.
The blacks, whites and greys on the Canon are much better, cleaner, less muddy.
Brand-new printer vs old printer? Old inks vs fresh ink?
The Canon does have 11 inks to the Epson's 8, two blacks, two greys.
There's a small increase in resolution on the Canon print, but for these I just selected all the basic options on both printers.
Tonight I'll download a plug-in that Canon makes which gives higher-res printing options.
