Is this coating issue something to keep in mind

    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a lens on eBay. The seller confirmed (a minor?) coating issue. Usually, I wouldn't be too concerned about it, but this one costs around 500 $ (+ tax + customs).

In your opinion will this (and/or spots around it) affect the final image at all?

    Thanks

    Not a problem at all.

It's difficult to tell from the picture, but that does not loo like a "coating issue". It looks more like a speck of dust. I doubt something like that in the glass would get by quality control. In any event, unless it's fungus -- which it probably isn't -- it's way too small to worry about. Out in the desert, I always have more dust on the lens than that!

But what lens is that? I have never seen a large format lens marked "FUJIFILM".

I don't know which lens this is, but I have 3 Fuji LF lenses. They are readily available and very good.

I guess that it is one dot of "Fuji-itis"

If that concerns you, I’d suggest you simply look for another. They seem quite plentiful on eBay for a lot less than $500.

Should not cost more than $200 USD tops for an absolute nice condition lens, no optical flaws (spot or etc) and GOOD shutter.
$500, WAY too much $ for a Fujinon Plasmat in this range of focal lengths.

As for the spot "defect" optically irrelevant or you will be deeply challenged to find change in optical performance for this lens with a spot.

Unless that's some super-rare focal length, if you're paying $500 the lens should be absolutely pristine. I personally would be happy to own and use the lens in the picture, no matter what the focal length, because that speck of whatever would not affect my photography in the slightest, and I don't care what my gear looks like. But I wouldn't pay $500 for it.
