Re: Report Shows it is Rare to Translate Success on Instagram Elsewhere

In my view, this simply lifts one layer from the mirage of success permeating the unreal world of so-called social media. Rather tectonic changes are in progress across the globe that have the potential to lift a number of such veils and reground in physical reality significant portions of various societies that have over 4-5 decades increasingly believed in, or at least accepted, quite an array of interacting mythologies. The universe may appear to be fooled for a while, but it has a way of reasserting principle.

I think this should be like Vegas...as in - "what happens on instagram, stays on instagram." Not sure if this makes sense....

Or maybe Instagram could be merged with Sim City - where folks can feel free to portray themselves however, as whomever...knowing that its only a fantasy.

I used to have an Instagram account. I deleted it once Facebook bought Instagram. It was a cute forum for sharing smartphone photos until Facebook got hold of it.

It's now morphed into something quite different. I work with a lot of 20 year old students, their main use for it is flirting (that's putting it kindly) or showing off wealth.

As with anything, you get out of it exactly what you put into it. Here's a smattering of excellent photographers I follow on Instagram:

    https://www.instagram.com/johnbradyphotography/
    https://www.instagram.com/benjamin_dimmitt_photography/
    https://www.instagram.com/mark.e.phillips/

    https://www.instagram.com/granger_the_photographer/
    https://www.instagram.com/gilla_pie/
    https://www.instagram.com/ajholmesphoto/

Of course you may recognize some names from this forum, and some maybe not. I generally follow photographers that post mostly photographs or BTS style photos, not overly political things or mostly non-photo-related things

There's also many "groups" you can follow, either via hashtags or repost groups:

    https://www.instagram.com/4x5group/
    https://www.instagram.com/largeformatnights/

    For example.

On my page I only post photos, BTS stuff, and the occasional cell phone photo on my "stories."

As for the article, I don't think it has much to do with anyone on this forum, except perhaps Ben Horne. Not many here engaged on multiple social media sites working on building an audience and such. However, I do know some who sell work through Instagram, Facebook, and other similar sites. I'm not sure how much success they really have with that, compared to more traditional models - though that would be a very interesting topic.
