Don't some neck lanyards have breakaways to avoid hanging yourself?

None of these would have saved my Minolta Spot F, which my wife inadvertently crushed behind the fascia of a rental motorhome slide-out during a trip in Alaska.

I have three Pentax Spot V’s, and I religiously engage the wrist lanyards in use. I just wish they all agreed.

Yes. I had several from my company ID days. I also found a number of that type at office supply stores. I use them on all my light meters.

Always blaming the wife? Heck, I've smashed a few fingers in car doors without any help from the wife at all. She might have been tempted to do that a few times, but was never along when it actually happened.

It’s not that I couldn’t have done it, it’s that in this case I didn’t.

I often go off-trail through heavy brush/trees. Break-away lanyards would be an easy way to lose important equipment...and get constantly hung-up with non-breakaways. Dropping a meter once in 50 years does not cry out to me to start hanging things around my neck (except girlfriends.)

Y'all got me paranoid - added a lanyard to my spot meter and will wear it only when in use then stick it back in the case/pack. The breakaway feature can be disabled by knotting over it.

I've got a phD in bushwhacking, especially with a huge backpack. You want everything tightly back into your pack when doing so. Otherwise, in Vaughn's case at least, you'll leave behind little bits of facial fur on twigs, or perhaps a focus loupe, allowing Bigfoot trackers to hunt you down.

As a drying agent for electronics that are dropped in water, consider using Instant Rice. Regular uncooked rice has a high moisture content compared to instant rice which has all of the moisture cooked out of it. Its readily available and efficient for quickly drying something out. Because there has to be a purpose in the world for instant rice - certainly its not for eating.

What about Rice-A-Roni? That tasted lousy too, especially when cooked atop a campfire. Maybe silica gel tastes better?
