Thread: Building a 4x5

    Re: Building a 4x5

I've been quiet for a while, but I haven't stopped work on the camera, I've just gone through a set of job interviews which have taken up my focus for the past week or so.

I'm attempting to work out a focusing mechanism composed of a threaded rod to control focus and a set of linear bearings and rods cannibalized from an old 3D printer. Basically the same mechanism as a Gibellini 4x5, but with multiple attatchment options for the front standard, like that of the intrepid 4x5.

For the film back I'll use the method laid out in John Grepstad's book (thanks for pointing me there Jim!)

hmmm ... to overcome these lapse in time, I would advise to only inform us about your undertakings as soon when the camera has been finished; prevents you from having to apologize every time things do not go like you had them planned.

You do'n have to apologise at all. Most of us have multiple projects, life gets in the way or you just have to start again because something that looked simple and staightforward is anything but.

    I disagree vehemently

    Who put you in charge?

Your post is the type that has destroyed this forum

Excess posting is not the problem

Excess arguing there is only one way to make LF IS the problem

    Okay, update time

I started 3D printing parts to test fit them, so here's the film back (not fully built out to save time). The tolerences were too tight so the film holder didn't fit in nicely at all, so I'll expand the "guiding" section by .5mm for easier insertion. There's more parts printing as I'm typing this so I'll share them later.

Feeler guage stock has been ordered to create the springs that tension the ground glass holder, and some 1/8" aluminum stock is also arriving soon.

Excuse the low picture quality, but here's a few other parts from the front and rear standards.

The way that I've opted to tighten and loosen components is with standard M6 bolts with in a 3D printed housing so that it's easy to recreate
