Why is "The Lounge" subforum blocked if you're not logged in?

Why is "The Lounge" subforum blocked if you're not logged in?

I can kinda understand why the buy and sell stuff is blocked for non-members, but why is The Lounge blocked?

A likely consequence of opening the Lounge to public viewing would be an increase in off-topic posting, both well-intentioned and not, with a corresponding increase in moderation burden and server usage. We prefer to devote as much as we can of our available time and energy, and of our donated hardware and software resources, to our fundamental purpose of facilitating information sharing about large format photography.

Think of The Lounge as a Fakebook private group, invented long before FakeMan

    Some privacy exists right here

Ah, I see. Too much of a good thing sometimes causes problems.

... everything in moderation (including moderation)

Sounds nefarious. A sneaky tact to increase membership?

I suspect, but cannot confirm, that many use PM often

I do not and if anybody asks me a question in a PM, I TRY to steer them back to public discourse

Hide in plain sight is my plan

Probably not so much to boost membership but more to avoid public humiliation.

The purpose of the lounge is the same as the for-sale forum: a service to registered members, who want a place for off-topic activities.

For everyone else, the forum is about large format photography.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.
