"I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority"---EB White
One of my biggest concerns there is that in the vicinity of Crystal Cave was one of the only concentrations of rare California nutmeg trees, which might well have perished. And the only one in the entire San Joaquin drainage further north I've ever seen was destroyed in the Big Creek Fire. I checked the spot. I think there's an example at the Tilden Botanical Garden uphill from me - they have a superb collection of California conifers, even rare Channel Islands species.
