    Here's an amusing video: https://youtu.be/3ChoeMZSwq0
Please note, the GCN target audience wears a lot of lycra and the men shave their legs, so maybe not quite the same target audience as here. Also, the main bike shown is 8000 Euros, so an entirely different price range than some of the bikes folks have been talking about. Bonus: really cute kids!

Personally, I'm intrigued by the Tern and Yuba electric cargo bikes, as I'd like a Bosch gearbox motor instead of a hub motor, but not quite as expensive a bike as the Ca Go shown in that video. Of course, if I'm actually in the market, maybe I'll get a hub motor bike like a Rad Power and save a lot of $.

There are Taiwan, German and Japanese motors, Yamaha made my Giant Bike motor

I have been following eBikes for years

Build from off the shelf parts https://www.ebay.com/b/E-Bike-Compon...814/bn_1862389 is not an easy thing

Plenty of maniacs hopping them up on youtube

There are laws and legal limits, a Police crackdown will happen

eBikes are already banned on many bicycle paths

    I saw a 70mph skateboard $3000 and way dangerous

One of my favourite YouTube channels. For those who aren't familiar with GCN, the presenter in this video is former road and mountain bike racer Simon Richardson.

I converted my mountain bike by adding a geared rear hub motor. Not too difficult. I just bought parts from other people and assembled it myself. There is a forum called Endless Sphere with info.

Here is one example of ebike/parts are not keeping up with the changing technology or suppliers, this is a 2019 model Raleigh e-bike(costing $2300 at the time), and the battery went kaput at the beginning of this year. My friend brought it back to the shop and was told Raleigh have change battery supplier and they no longer have the battery for it. They offer him a really good deal on their 2021 model and he took it. As for this bike, a friend and I are still trying to figure out how to rig our own battery pack for it. As is, it's a hunk of junk sitting around collecting dust. It sort of can be used as a regular bike but in reality it moves like a fish out of water.

For me, moral of the story with e-bike is, it's very much like digital cameras, it gets to be outdated pretty quickly. It is a super fun toy, or tool depending on how you look at it. I would certainly buy what fits my need and budget and use the hell out of it, and I am not expecting it to last nor expecting much resale value in it.

If you have the old battery, it's straightforward to find out what the capacity and cells are. I've just finished building a lithium-based LiFePO4 battery, and it's easier than you might think. I imagine that there are e-bike specialists who can help, but if not Battery Hookup may have what you need.

If you're new to lithium batteries, a good place to start is Will Prowse's DIY Solar Forum. Just ignore the solar discussions and focus on the battery stuff. Prowse's YouTube channel is also a great resource.

Seems like there is an e-everything these dasys. Why not just use a rugged Honda Trail bike and get the job done?

For the past couple of years I have been trying to talk my doctor into selling me his old Honda Trail 90. So far no luck.

EBikes in many places are (for now) classified as non-motorized vehicles, although for the US Park Service, it has to be able to be pedaled...so no electric versions of a Honda trail bike. So anywhere a regular bicycle can go, an eBike of the proper classification can go in Yosemite. Unfortunately, the Park administration/planners have had blinders on when it comes to providing opportunities for bikes in the Valley, and the Park in general. I rode around the Valley on the eBike a couple times last June...pretty cool seeing possibilities for images that one misses in a car and no place to stop a car. But no shoulder on the roads.

In theory, I can still pedal back if I run out of charge...like the Honda, I would still be pushing uphill, but level would be fine.

In my trail days, we took misery whips into the wilderness to clear the trails -- mostly to keep in line with the concept of no motors in the wilderness, but also practicality. To haul a couple chainsaws, chaps, gas and oil, chains, parts, and tools, we would have to take in one more mule (one more to pack up, to feed, and to impact the wilderness). No hiking out for a spark plug! It took very little time to take the cross-cut saw off the mules, grab the bag of wedges, hand sledge, and kerosene, and get to work. Two cuts and move on. Took a little more planning for the 3+ footers...and with experience and a good partner, a misery whip is not a misery, but good back exercise -- and a fun challenge for a crew. Chainsaws, blahhh.

Chain saws would have made some of the local idiots I had working for me too cocky -- power over thinking.
