    Bolts in an Envelope

I am using a great source for camera fasteners tiny and bigger on eBay

I recently needed 2.5mm x 0.7 pitch for an old camera

Hard to measure that size, so I got it wrong first go, ordered 3mm, kept them for next time

They deliver quickly by USPS letter, total with shipping $6

I used to waste money and gas going to stores...

Depends... Online orders usually there is a minimum # they will sell as set, when you only need one... Without free shipping, can cost more than item... I had to buy 50 acorn nylon nuts once to get 5 I needed...

More Ace hardware stores have been appearing in my area, while not cheapest, have surprisingly good selection in some stores, even very small SAE/metric selection... And some very small sizes are interchangeable with our overseas cousins...

And you can bring parts with you to try them on...

    Location matters

Yes and no... It's getting MUCH harder to find good sources for hardware than decades ago, as most stores have closed due to retirement, gentrification etc, and it's home stores and yumster bakeries etc... Had lost most all of my part sources, but have been managing with the new ACE stores here...

And camera stores here are gone, except for Samy's (if that counts)... They didn't have a short PC to PC cord I needed a couple of weeks ago...

Online is useful, but sucks when I can't get some common screw at some home store...

I guess I'm lucky my local Ace Hardware store (a 4.4-mile roundtrip) stocks a decent range of metric hardware in sizes as small as M1.6.

Yes, it's priced quite a bit higher than bulk purchases from Amazon and eBay, and I do sometimes need to shorten screws and/or reshape their heads, but I can have it in my hands at my workbench within 30 minutes, which comes in handy.

I've bought several boxes with assortments of tiny screws now from China. From 1 to 3 mm, self-tapping metal screws to use in wood, and machine screws. I think I've spent about $30 total for 1,000 or so screws including shipping. More for the convenience of being able to instantly replace the screw that drops on the floor and bounces itself into a different dimension.

I get small bolts, nuts and screws from MicroFasteners.com . The price is right and service rapid.

next time you see a junk camera at a garage sale for 50cents, buy it and strip it down to the very last screw.

you'll never need to buy another camera screw for the rest of your life!
