    4x5 Lupex

Saw this announcement on Photrio. It seems to be a market test.

"Due to the requests of some photrio members, we have now added 4x5" format to our portfolio of ADOX LUPEX formats...

For us as a manufacturer this is also a market test: Will the demand be sufficient and sustainable enough to make the production economically possible in the mid and long term? If yes we can keep it, if not we will have to stop it.
So for all who have asked for it: It is now up to you to support your requests by actually buying the product regularly. Then we will be able to offer this format to you in the long term."

I ordered 8x10 Lupex earlier this year and it showed up after 3-4 weeks. A couple of months ago I re-ordered some more 8x10 Lupex and still not received.
I wish they shipped via another service and not DHL Parcel which seems a bit irregular/unpredictable.

What was your experience with it?

Are you asking about shipping or Lupex?

    About Lupex :-)
I’m thinking about trying it but would like to hear someone’s experience.

I am a darkroom newbie so take anything I say with a grain of salt…
So far, I like the look. It is high comtrast, so I have to be ready to pull it out of Amidol quickly otherwise I end up with super high unusable prints. I am still learning but I like the look I’ve got from some of the experiments I have been doing. Paper scratches easily so handle with care while processing. Papers want to curl even after being under a book for 4 weeks its still not straight. But I like it and will continue to make contact prints. Here is snapshot of a print. Just an experiment nothing more:

I found it to be a beautiful contact paper. It’s a chloride paper so it will tend naturally to be warm in colour, however with this type of paper the colour will generally be a lot more responsive to different developers and toners than typical enlarging papers so you can get quite a range - even cool tones. It is on a double weight base like enlarging papers.

The real limitation is that it only comes in one grade (3). However you can reduce that by up to roughly a grade by pre-flashing, which is simple enough to do. Of course since it is a slow chloride emulsion you need a bright light for exposure.
