Importance of camera movements ->Alan & others, long & Linhof

Question posed by Alan about rear camera movements and how it might apply camera movements to the small building with wheels in front image inspired to scan and post the chapter from the Linhof Large Format book published in the early 1970's. About zero has changed since this work as was published and it remains a GOOD reference and source of information and understanding on how view camera movements work and can be applied.

Idea and intent for posting this is to help those new to view camera gain some understanding and why these camera movements do what they do. Another significant point of fact, what the limitations of view camera movements are as fixed-givens.

It would be helpful if another forum member would be willing to host the full size scans of these pages as what is posted as an image file per post is too small to reveal the complete content of these pages.

One good use for rear movements is if you were too close to a tall tower that was obviously impossible to correct, but when aiming upward, it looked too short and needed "stretching" in the height to make it look "monumental", rear movements could be used for that stretch...

Something I do frequently now when up close to high buildings is to aim camera upwards (like 45°) to allow the foreshortining, and tweak it with the rear movements for effect (like one of those Paul Strand church steeples)...

Hello Bernice, I maintain an archive of Linhof PDF files in a google drive.
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...jo?usp=sharing

I would be happy to add this and any other Linhof materials you would like to share to this archive.
Either make them into a PDF or send me the image files and I can do it.
Use this email: linhofark@gmail.com but I don't check it so send me a note here if you send something...
