Jon, I just did some super exciting brick wall testing. My sample of the Z14-30 is a little better all around than my AF-S 20 f/1.8G at F/8. 16mm is still pretty good. 14mm gets noticeably softer at the far corners, but it's not too bad. The 12-24 is likely consistently a bit sharper on the edges, but Kolarivision says the 12-24 isn't good for IR.

Anyone try IR Digital with a real Soft Focus lens? Would it add anything?

I have not, but IR tends to be a bit soft anyway.

With a nice Soft Focus lens you can vary the look and get "blooming" effects. Coupled with IR it might be worth checking.
Maybe with something like a Pentax 85mm f/2.8 or 2.2 soft focus lens or one of those for the 6x7 Pentax? Adapters to use them on various digital bodies are available.

    Good point!

Tuco, as I look at the image it does look very nice. But - I don't see it "looking infrared" - at least not the way I usually see IR images. Doesn't have the high contrast sky and clouds and the green of the trees blooming white - that I usually see.

Really looks crisp and clean but without the effects I am used to seems as if it is regular B&W film - without a Wratten 25 filter for the sky contrast.

Yeah, it was an 8 second exposure. And the ducks came around expecting some food creating wrinkles in the water but didn't show up.

Yeah I agree. Not much IR effect at all. It was taken at sunset in a cloudy sky. I think using the filter needs a lot of sunlight to get a good IR effect.
