Re: Now e-Bay wants my SSN and bank account info . . .???

I just bought something there (yet another cheap Packard shutter, just because it was very cheap and any Packard shutter is potentially a helpful problem solver), and it now has the option to pay with credit card without going through PayPal. Went ahead and gave it a try.

I'm a musician too, and there's a site called Reverb that has taken much of the business away from ebay for buy/selling music gear, and they also do their own payment processing. I think there is a distinct advantage to it vs. using a third party like PayPal. As a Reverb buyer/seller, it looks to me like ebay is playing catch-up to their successful model. Though, I had thought that ebay buying PayPal and then tightly integrating it was supposed to be accomplishing the same thing? I guess not?
Is the real story here that they're looking to sell off PayPal?

I wonder what this will do to PayPal if eBay will no longer allow their service to be used...? Been a few years since I sold on ebay but I buy there quite often - mostly adding to my collection of Daguerreotypes and Ambrotypes. I always use my credit card thru PayPal.
I guess I pretty much gave up on selling on ebay when they took away the sellers ability to leave negative feedback for a deadbeat buyer.

Not much. PayPal is a huge company now. eBay transactions constitute a very small fraction of their current business.

    e-bay and PayPal . . .what-the-heck?

I am getting what looks like an official notification from e-By when I log in tomy account. They want me to update may account info (well OK) to confirm name aqnd so on . . .then want the last four digits of my SSN and a link to a bank account!

This cannot be legitimate. If it is, I will avoid e-Bay for anything going forward.

Any one actually know what is what with this?

Are you sure you haven't been redirected to a fake ebay website? I would check the web address at the very least. I just signed into my account and didn't see anything like that. And SSN and bank account info would be a scam IMO.

I have seen the same type of scam for Amazon and Apple with fake web addresses that can very easily fool the viewer.

the scammers get better at fake emails all the time

the safe way is to go to the real site of the bank or what ever and never use the link

we had one from our bank a few weeks ago that was an absolutely perfect fake - except it was to a different email address than we use for that bank
