Question I need a new person to service large format lenses

My camera repairman, Henry Paine of Stockton, California, is retiring. I am mainly interested in someone to clean and adjust large format lenses, older and recent. Does anyone know someone they recommend highly?

Dereniger in Kansas City did a good job for me.

CRIS Camera Repair in Chandler, AZ has done a very good job on Copal shutters I have sent them.

They do all communication through email. Here is their website:

    Hello Gene,

Carol Flutot gets good reviews. May be a bit of a wait.

Sorry to hear that Henry has closed shop.

Carol Flutot has done great work on every lens I've sent her.

Carol has never had one of my lenses, BUT - she has done a great job on several of my SHUTTERS.

I too will be missing Henry. I could send him a shutter via UPS from my local Staples store and he'd get it the next day; always had good turn-around time too. Worked on both my rim-set and dial-set Compurs (and I was about to send him a Copal when I heard back from him that he was having to close.) Also fixed a Hasselblad back.

I will probably switch to Bob Watkins/Precision Camera Works: https://www.precisioncameraworks.com he's not much further away from me than Henry.

I should add that Bob did a CLA on one of my Compurs and i was happy with the work. Not sure why I sent it to him instead of Henry, maybe something told me I should look in to alternatives just-in-case.

As Dan Fromm astutely observed recently on another forum, people who can do this sort of work "don't seem to be reproducing."

Bob Watkins has had my Fuji GSW690III for over a year and a half. He apparently refuses to send it back, and he won't answer email. An associate occasionally answers emails, but nothing he's promised has come true. Judging by the comments on Bob's Facebook page, I'm not the only one who can't get his/her camera back. I'm very close to calling Bob's local police department.

    Hmmm, maybe I'll re-think this...
