Henry Paine camera repair (Stockton CA) closing

Just heard this from Henry, He's retiring, precipitated by having lost his lease. I've recommended him from time-to-time on this forum. He always did a good job for me on my dial-set and rim-set Compurs as well as at least one No. 5 Ilex. This on top of George Milton who I've used in the past also.

+1 Henry CLA my 500 c/m body, lenses and backs before I moved. He also fixed a sticky shutter on my Nikon 210 w lens that another shop CLA (one year earlier). Sorry to hear about his misfortune.

    Doesn't everybody deserve retirement?

I don't know how old Henry is, guessing he's a bit younger than I am (but probably older than I was when I retired). So in the back of my mind I knew some day he would retire. This was forced on him, his landlord gave him 20 days notice. Not much time to close up a business like that with all its test equipment and tools. And I have the impression he has quite a stash of spare parts.

And Don reminded me, he worked on Hasselblads too.

Yes, forced to move or close shop is sad

I was 'retired' age 58, given 2 weeks notice and out

    Kills incentive

Took me years to recover, it was 2008

Been there too. Not a lost lease, but big company eliminating every male over 50. I was cut just shy of 55. Thank God I didn't listen to our company's financial coaches, sure I funded retirement fund, but more importantly I had paid double or triple house payments. I drove home that last day in a 5 year old Subaru to a house all paid for.
I applied for hundreds of jobs, never got a call. Finally after a couple years got hooked up with some fellow cast-offs , same job as before, half the money, I was very lucky. It's funny how things work out. My wife had insurance, we are living a humble retirement. We just got back from a nice e-bike ride.
