Check out brake and clutch cleaning fluid from the auto store.......it has a similar effect to tri-chlor, but much less dangerous.

Methylene chloride is another no-no. Worked for a Pharmaceutical company and found out too much about it. Sure does take off paint, though.
Think I'll stick with plain lighter fluid (but no cigarette!).
There's a huge can of it somewhere - don't use it anymore - gave it up.

Electronics cleaner used to contain CFCs before they were banned, now it mostly contains lightweight hydrocarbons. CRC electronics cleaner is mostly naphtha (US meaning), ethanes, pentanes - the MSDS is at http://docs.crcindustries.com/msds/1003719E.pdf Electronics cleaners evaporate quickly with very little residue. BTW, "naphtha" means different things in different countries.

Be careful with other cleaners and degreasers because they often have stronger solvents that will attack and dissolve plastics and possibly paint.

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!

Please confirm you have metall shutter blades, and not the card board type, as the latter type is not happy with any type of fluid

Yup! That's an excellent point. Would have never thought to look.
