I just got a Epson V800 and it comes with default software Epson Scan. People says that VueScan is a much more superior scanning software than the default software shipped in with my V800, and SilverFast is the best. It is true?

I have the V850 for about a year. The Silverfast they furnished with it has to be upgraded at more cost to get all the features. I use Epsonscan and have used Epsonscan with satisfaction previously for the last ten years with a V600 as well. You can see samples on my Flickr page including 35mm, 120 medium format, and 4x5" large format in both color and BW.
I've learned to keep the scanning part simple. I basically scan flat with minor adjustments to the white and black points only. All other auto exposure corrections, sharpening, and other adjustments are turned off. Then, I do all editing in my post processing programs.

The v800 comes with a SilverFast license-- try it out.
