    Sekonic L-758DR v L-758D - What is the Difference?

My primary light meter is the Sekonic L-758DR. I'm one of those LF photographers that likes to have back-ups of certain items. Since the L-578DR is no longer manufactured by Sekonic, I'm wanting to add a back-up to my arsenal. I've noted that the L-758D appears to be more readily available. I did some quick research on Sekonic's website and can't easily identify what the differences are. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I don't know for sure, but I always thought the "R" version of Sekonic's meters simply included the radio transmitter for flash?

I've thought the same thing Alan. I don't use any form of non-ambient lighting for my photography, LF or otherwise, so that function is a none issue for me.

The "DR" version has PocketWizard built-in.

That is excellent news. As I had hoped, it appears that the basic metering functions are the same on both the "DR" and "D" versions. That also explains the price differences I'm seeing on the used market.

I bought the 'R' version out of ignorance 13 years ago

Never used that removable part which only worked on something I didn't own or want

I use my L-758DR daily for flash with an external wired trigger that fires my strobes

and I switched to a USB rechargeable battery

I also have the DR with the removable component. Always daydreaming of picking up some PocketWizards to make use of it, figure they'll come down in price someday.

I remove the module when I go backpacking.

I appreciate all the helpful feedback. In a moment of clarity, I got my Pentax Digital Spot Meter out and dusted off the cobwebs. It has languished in my safe as a backup to the 758DR. I forgot how simple and intuitive it was to use. I've decided to promote the Pentax to my starting line-up. I'll likely sell the 758DR and get a back-up Pentax. And yes, I'm one of those people that has "back-ups" to my critical meters, lenses, etc. You should see my wife roll her eyes
