Any tips for home brew developers for the TMax films?

    Hi,

Just out of curiosity... does anyone have any home brew developer recipes for the TMax films?

I see that there are several here: https://www.digitaltruth.com/data.php?doc=appformulas
But I am wondering if any of these (or any other) are to prefer in particular for the TMax films.

    Cheers

Out of curiosity I tried D23 1:1 with TM100. DIY mixes don't get easier than two ingredients. (OK, three if you count water.) I've been very pleased with the results.

PMK pyro works great for me. But all kinds of developers are applicable.

I've gotten quite nice results out of TMax 100 in Pyrocat-HD.

Another vote for Pyrocat HD, though D-23 at 1+1 was a good option too.

Just about anything will do. TMX is a great film and responds well to all kinds of developers. The people who say PMK, Pyrocat and D23 work well with it, are right. So are the ones who may (have yet to) vouch for Mytol, D76 (of any kind/variation), (pa)rodinal, 51 pyro, PC glycol etc. etc. etc.....

Plenty of good experience with tmax400 and pyrocat-hdc, pyrocat-hd, pmk, d76. Caffenol is functional for the slower films.
These are very versatile films that can have a whole different look depending on which developer and how it's developed (time, agitation), etc...
If someone says that is the look of tmax 400, it's BS. It can have many looks.

    Thanks for good advice all,

Considering the convenience of d23 I'm likely to give that a go first :-) Are there any backsides to d23... or would that be discussing personal preference?

    Cheers

No downsides to D23 in my experience. It's a great developer that's easy to mix. Good luck and have fun!
