I can't process massive 50" strips of paper, so I made a mini-panorama with the Negateil shifting negative holder using five 16x20 sheets to print the center portion of an 8x10 negative. I actually used a 210mm lens for this as I was only projecting a portion of the negative at a time. Affixing the pieces together is part of the aesthetic. I'd hate for someone to mistake my work for digital or ink-jet.

how thick is the Negateil? wondering if it would fit in an old L184 condensor unit also. the slot for the Nega 205 is about 25mm.

I saw a huge print by Ansel Adams that was made up of segments (20x24?)

Reading one of his books (The Print ?), he said trying to cope with big rolls of paper was too much.

I helped a friend at university print a 50 inch wide print - it hung on the wall being exposed for 30+ minutes and we processed it in troughs on the floor - see-sawing the paper through the chemicals.

Laid the wet prints out to dry on tables overnight.

Great fun but needed a change of clothes and a shower afterwards plus a ton of paper roll to clean up the mess.

Negateill is extremely rare. It interchanges with the Laraneg and only works on the L1840.
The only reason I have the Negateil is that it came already fitted to my enlarger. Otherwise I think they are almost impossible to find.

I'm also very lucky to have the Rodagon 300mm that came with my enlarger. I have the original receipt from 1988 and the lens was $1800 USD (Inflation calculator indicates $3960 today).

The print shop took good care of the lens, it has both caps and still looks like new. Even still has the "Rodenstock Quality Seal" on the aperture ring.

Top to bottom using my calipers: 93.7mm.

But more likely, 93.5mm, given a dimension given in the green table for 300mm Rodagon-G lenses.

I measure 29mm at this location (width of Negateil). If you do find a Negateil, I suspect you can find some way to adapt it to your enlarger. It seems to slide right in.

thank you! yes I can see it fitted maybe under another head assembly or even the condensors head with proper shims. it's mostly a matter of where the opening in the carrier is and if it collimates with the enlarger "throat".
