Developing Shanghai GP3 8x10 Film?

I just ordered some Shanghai GP3 ISO 100 film in 8x10 format to give it a try.

I wanted to connect with the group here to see if any of you have tried the film and if so, what did you find useful for a good developer and associated development times based on your method?

Any photos with the film you can share?

Looking forward to receiving the film and trying it out.

I shoot 8x10 and develop in Pyrocat-HD. EI 50.

I've gone through a few sheets in 4x5. Perfectly ok film. I developed it in instant mytol (xtol clone). Nothing very particular about it; somewhat coarse grain for this speed. Effective speed seemed to be around 80 or so.

I've shot it only in 120 format at EI 80 and get nice results developing in D-23 for 12 mins @ 20C.

You will find the same thing with this film that holds true with most film.
Pick a developer - almost any developer - and use it. Work with it and tweak development times, agitation and dilutions and you will generally find you can get good results from it.
Many great photographers use film/developer combinations others will tell you are no good at all.
The great truth of B&W photography is that there is no such thing as "the silver bullet".

I found the film to be pretty slow in testing. IN use, it is 'just ok' in terms of shadow detail, but useable. I have only used 100 sheets, but I made some nice prints.

I have not had a chance to put any of my prints under the copy stand yet, but here is a print in the wash from last week.

Always interested in what people have to say about a new film...foma 100 is very good

Alan: Thanks for this. I have 100 sheets in my fridge, and am a fan of D23... so this is perfect info. Eager to give it a try. Hearing good things about Foma 100 and 200, too... but happiest with FP4 so far.

Fomapan 100 in Pyrocat-HD with minimal agitation is another of my favorites! FWIW
