    Mido holders scratching film?

just getting a grip with Mido early edition 4x5 holders. I was loading/unloading a couple dummy sheets of film to practice it, but then noticed that the cover envelope is badly scratching the film. Is this common with these things?

Ouch! I'm not sure what is going on here. I've used Mido holders fairly often in the past and never had this problem. I'd examine the envelope for rough areas as well as check how the whole packet fits in the Mido holder and camera back. There really shouldn't be any pressure on the envelope when it is pulled. Maybe something is pressing where it shouldn't.

    Good luck finding your problem,

30 times? Yikes! That looks like a Mido I holder, which was made of very thin material capable of heat buckling and touching the film. I never got along with those; but the Mido II clamshell style doesn't have the same risk.
