Sorry, i need to correct this statement. There are no motors in the MG500 head other than the one that drives the cooling fan at the top of the head.

Contrast changes are achieved by the controller telling the PSU to supply specific voltages to each of two lamps with dichroic filters between the lamps and the mixing box inside the head.

That is quite a good price. Even if you can't adapt it to the Durst, the MG500 is valuable for any other enlarger assuming it is functional.

The 189 is the adapter alone, with the head and all accessories I’m in like 700.

Oh. I may not be totally up to date on the thread, but it looks to me like the frosted 12V bulb shown will not be big enough to cover 4x5 with the condensers.
However you could put a frosted plate between the lamp and the first condenser. It will even out the light but it will be dimmer. That, plus Ilford filters would be the most economical way to get it working.

Other, less expensive options would be to
    a) find a larger 12V lamp .
    b) find the 12V point source lamp (may drive you crazy with dust and negative imperfections)
    c) re-wire the lamp socket for 120V and use a standard opal 120V enlarger lamp.
