How to replace the FP shutter in a Speed Graphic

Hello everyone. I imagine this has been asked before but I'm afraid I can't find an appropriate thread via the search box.

I want to replace the focal plane shutter in my Speed Graphic and I'd very much appreciate any advice other Speed Graphic users can give me. Specifically I'm keen to know what is the best replacement material and how to deal with the clockwork winder and governor set-up.

Any advice, or a pointer to the right thread, would be very much appreciated - thank you.

    Kind regards
    Richard

Re: How to replace the FP shutter in a Speed Graphic

You might want to keep an eye out on the big auction site for a used focal plane shutter. I picked up one many years ago for less than $30 to replace a focal plane shutter in an Anniversary Speed Graphic that I bought that someone at some point had removed the shutter from. Very easy to replace it like for like.

There are a lot of threads on graflex.org that will provide the information you seek. Look for posts from Bert and Charles. They have generously provided a lot of good information over the years on that site.

If you do fabricate a new shutter, please update this thread. I have always wanted to try, just for the heck of it. So I would be interested in your efforts.

    Good Luck,

    Harold

You might check MicroTools for parts and cloth.
