    Underexposed negative = positive

If you do wetplate photographgy, you might have heard of the saying "a positive is just an underexposed negative." Or " a good negative is a bad positive."

Will this work on film? What happens when I underexposed Shanghai film by 5 stops?

You get a positive. Watch my video to see my tryout

Very similar in principle to tintypes/ambrotypes. I always like to look at my underexposed negatives this way...kinda makes up for goofing up the exposure!

Yup.. X-ray film seems to exhibit this easily ..maybe due to the fact that it is coated on both sides.
