    TOYO 45AX bellows question...

    Hi all,

I did the math and to use a 300mm on a Toyo 45AX and focus at 25ft from my camera I would need to extend the bellows to 312mm (Max bellows on this camera is 321mm).

Is extending the bellows this much bad on the bellows or is this a natural use of the bellows. I called a few stores and they couldn't help me. I also called Toyo (Mac?) but couldn't get through.

I could buy an extender back but those are about $800!

I don't own a Toyo but the 45AX is the one I am about to buy.

    Thank you!

    David

I have a Toyo AX, and I have a 300mm lens that I use on it. That shouldn't be a problem. I also have the 4" extender, but I never use it.

Good to know... thank you Peter. Hey would you be willing to sell your extender?

A top-hat lensboard is useful with a 300mm on field cameras with bellows draw of around 300mm or so. I made one for my Nikkor M 300mm for use on my Wista field cameras (DX and SW, both with only 300mm of bellows draw). I can focus down to 9 feet or so with only about two inches of extended lensboard. I'd recommend one for your application as long as your 300mm lens isn't too heavy (i.e., not with an f/5.6 Plasmat!).

    Best,

Or has too large a rear element to fit into the extended board.
