Hi all. I’m looking to get a sense of lenses that meet this criteria. Specifically:
- focal lengths of 480-600mm
- lens in barrel
- faster than f9
- image circle that can cover 14x17 wide open
Any help would be appreciated.

19 inch dagor?
Did you mean in wheelbarrow?
Haha, there are a handful out there that don’t require a forklift Im sure.
500/6.3 Krauss Tessar. Not that common but they turn up from time to time on ebay.com and ebay.fr.
This is actually for a camera obscura.

I’m just looking to get the brightest image on the ground glass that I can. I’m also looking for a large fresnel lens to brighten it as well.
I did 50x60cm 1:1 portraits with Zeiss Tessar 500mm f/4.5 (definitely too close), so it might work nice for 14x17" also from longer distances. There exits some longer Tessars that are also wider than f/9 but these are rare.
Another option.
Get in touch with Reinhold Schabe at www.re-inventedPhotoEquip.com. He sells Ultra Large Format Wollaston Meniscus Landscape lenses for a very reasonable price. These have been used since the beginning of photography and are actually very capable lenses. They can be soft focus or sharper depending on your needs. I use my 500mm f6.9 lens on an 11x14 camera but it will cover up to 16x20 if I'm not mistaken. It's certainly not a Tessar but it does a surprisingly good job.

If you don't believe it, look into an 8x10 viewfinder!
