    Film, scanning or development issues?

    Hi all -

I've just got some film back from a new lab that I'm trying out. C41 (Ektar 100), brand new film. I've scanned the film on my Cezanne at 3200dpi and I'm getting some weird splotching. When I scan negatives I generally don't set the end points in the scanner software and leave the and inverting, colour correction etc in Photoshop. I've attached two files at 100% that show a sample from the film scan. The first is 'processed' - end points set and colour corrected, curves etc. The 2nd is the same area of film with just a basic invert and removing of the orange mask (I haven't spotted the scans as you can see). I've been relatively aggressive in darkening this areas of film (the sky) in processing which has made the issue much more obvious, but I've never had an issue with doing this before with colour negatives. I scanned some E6 yesterday as well and the problem didn't appear in these scans so I'm leaning towards it being either the film or the developing.

Any thoughts? Also, any thoughts how it might be best fixed in Photoshop?

    Tim

Looks like film defects. Are these wet or dry mount? Healing brush, clone tool, patch tool whatever works.

Even in olden days of color slides, hand retouching was done all the time

My last wife, retouched 8X10 Playboy Chromes into the 90's

    sadly Marnie never taught me...

Are you sure the models didn't need the retouching?

    No

I lived across the street from Chicago Park West Playboy club and watched fools going in and out

No way in Hell was I ever going in there, money was not the issue

When Hef was going out of business I did buy full size color prints of a few 70's centerfolds. They were bigger than the mag, not folded. Packed like fine art in tissue and big boxes, the cost was about $3 per print. I still have them in a flat file

You should put them on the wall. At our ages it can't possibly hurt anything - whoops, maybe something WOULD hurt.
