    5x12 Lens kit

Planning my lenses for my new 5x12 coming this fall. Do people tend to use the standard lens for Pano formats or are Wide angles more commonly used?

    I have a 210 and 300/500 so far. On 4x5 I use my 65mm,90mm, and 135mm lenses the most.

Trying to decide if I want a 165 SA. I read that these can be reversed in shutter for Macro work so that is kind of interesting too.
The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

An 150mm XL is so much smaller, but you might have a bit less dark corners with a 165 f8.

So what's the official image circle requirement for 5x12? From my quick calculations it seems like 325mm?

The Nikkor 120mm f/8 covers 8x10 just barely (312mm). I would be tempted first to see if it works on that format (you can try mine). That would be like a 50mm lens on 4x5, cropped to the same aspect ratio. A 150/165 would be closer to your 65mm cropped. The Nikkor 150mm f/8 is also available. That and the 150XL will be big/expensive.

    What 210mm do you have?

I'm in a checking frame of mind this morning.

Bryan, I calculate it as 330 mm, close enough to your 325 mm. I used nominal, not actual, size. Actual should be a little smaller.

OP, my Schneider documentation says that the 165/8 SA is in a #1. The #1 shutter is asymmetric, front tube is threaded M40x0.75, rear tube is M36x0.75. Sorry, swapping cells front to rear is impossible.

    I did find 150mm Nikkor SW In Copal #1, while the 165mm in a Copal #3 ....

Dan, my '90s-vintage Schneider catalog says #3 - and the 165 SA that I own is in a Copal 3. The 155 Grandagon comes in a #1, though.

What I have is a Wollensak 8 1/4" (210mm_ Graphic Raptar which has 385mm, the Nikkor 300M and a Red Dot Artar 19". I also have a 61/4" Hugo Meyer Wide Angle which seems to almost cover but I have not used it much as the shutter is wonky. It is pneumatic and inconsistent even after cleaning.

The 165 SA is Huge. I use a 6 1/2 WA Dagor. Covers with movements.

Oren, thanks for checking. I just looked at the 1970 catalog again, I misread it. #3 it is. Symmetric.
