Time to make some Linhof parts...

Getting started on my Technika IV restoration project...

    again...

I did not get far last time around as I ended up just searching for parts.

I needed the two pivot screws that hold and allow the front standard to tilt... they had both been sheared off somehow...
Also needed not only 1 of the four knobs for the back but also the internal piece that the knob screws into and the internal spring and pin...
I can see why this poor Technika was never fixed the parts are not readily available...

After 6 months of searching camera shops and the internet I was able to get the complete knob and assembly from a seller in France. Lucky!

As for the “Lagerschraube screw” (Linhof part #063944.1.001.45) none could be found... spent a couple of years looking too. I contacted Linhof in Munich and they confirmed the part and that it is the same part used today and gave me the part number and asked me to order it through one of the shops they partner with as they do not take direct orders and have no way of billing a customer.

I then spoke to all the shops in the us that do Linhof repairs, LAFlex, Nippon, & Bob Watkins of Precision, “NO PARTS FOR SALE” we save our parts for our repairs! Understandable since I should know Linhof parts can be scarce. Except this part was still in production and could be ordered new for $18 each from the factory. “NO PARTS!!!” was the mantra from them all.

I went back to Linhof and they agreed to invoice me and I could do a bank wire transfer to their account... great... except there is a 100euro minimum plus shipping. I really wanted the parts but could not bring myself to pay the ransom in the end...

So I have decided to make my own parts and get on with the project... again!

The screws that the standard pivots on for front tilt were both sheared off... maybe the camera had a fall... must have landed on the lens and broke the front standard...

New screw from the hardware store... threads are the same but head is too large to fit snug in the standard and not stick out...
