I've been using LF for 25 years. Still make an occasional mistake. Most common is pulling the dark slide without first checking that the viewing shutter is CLOSED.

My first LF photo! I took 14 photos with two lenses, running through the exposure times to see whether they are accurate. Everything worked out!

1/400 sec at f/8, which is basically Sunny 16.

Mind you, this is a photo of the negative with my iPhone because I don't have scanner yet.

Just shoot. You have the film in the holders backwards anyway, so its not going to matter.

    Or maybe that was me.

This link -> https://www.largeformatphotography.i...o-operate.html from the homepage is a very good reminder of the procedures. I have used it as a check list. Still do funny stuff like remembering that the lens is still opened up while pulling the darkslide ... Or double exposures when leaving film too long in the holders, as the two most recent ones.

Congratulations! That's a better start than many I've seen.

    Hi
I would suggest watching this video by Fred Newman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JU-eHpk97Y. I found it incredibly helpful.
Fred also offers to send a .pdf (for free !) with all the basics about using movements, which can be quite tricky at first. When I contacted him he replied within less than two hours. The Ansel Adams book on 'The Camera' also has very clear illustrated examples. Apart from that, just go out and practise !

+1 on the video link above. I have found that video very helpful getting my focusing down throughout the scene.

P.S.: Sorry about the lousy JPG compression of the forum; the pictures don't do the original justice.

Showing up a bit dark on my screen, but otherwise looking good. Nice compositions.
