    Easter Corona Weekend - DIY lens boards

    This Easter Corona Weekend, with very fine weather, and only being in and around the house, I finally found the time to make some lens boards for 3 of my British oldies which were desperately in need of them. I made 2 boards for each camera so I could use some different lenses or a lens/shutter combo.

    The boards are used for:
    - the British made Eastman (see other thread about restoring that camera);
    - a Thornton Picard Imperial Perfecta;
    - a Sanderson A-Pattern which uses round boards.

    All boards are made of mahogany matching as much as possible the camera. For some boards I made a backing board of beech or oak in order to provide more support when carrying a heavy lens and for providing extra mass to the screws. Luckily I had just enough 'old' style screws to mount the different mounting rings.

    In a first try a board was shattered since I hadn't it fixed thoroughly on a supporting board and because the speed for the hole saw was too low. Also sawing the center hole for the lens after sandwiching two boards is a bit tricky.

    happy holidays...

    Thanks and yes, have two of those also with the same lens...but their f-stop scale is a little different.

    Fun activities but there can be awful lot of torsional energy when using hand held hole cutters. I speak from experience of minor injuries.

    I have a number of cameras with round lens boards, including a 15x12 Lizar from Scotland.

    I have found that reproduction Georgian / Victorian furniture ( unloved These days) is a good source of quality hardwood veneers for lens board manufacture.

    Indeed Steven, with motorised tools one must always be extra careful, especially with the ones hand held....Sometimes I buy indeed old piece of furniture, but rather for the full hardwood than for the veneer...e.g. a 60=ties teak table....
