Iris clamp mounted to Sinar Copal shutter

I'm thinking about mounting a iris lens clamp to the front of the Sinar Copal shutter - I have created a prototype of a board using 4-ply black museum board. This board allows me to mount the shutter clamp combination to the camera.

So far I exposed one test sheet with this set up and it went well. I "mounted" the clamp to the shutter with black gaffers. I want a stronger and more permanent solution.

I am somewhat concerned about the space inside the front face of the shutter. Will there be enough space for screws?

Other questions:
How do I drill the metal front face of the sinar shutter and ensure that a screw will turn into a drilled hole?
Should I consider a small "bolt" instead? The bolt's head could be insider the shutter's face and stick out through the clamp where nuts would hold it in place.

Will the bolts have issues with their heads touching something inside the shutter?

The beauty of this set up is that it will allow me to push the barrel lens as close to the shutter leaves as possible- which will be almost even with the front face of the camera's lens board.


I do have some concerns about image cut-off from this set up, at least with big camera movements.

Who's found a creative way to pair sinar copals with lens clamps of large and ultra large cameras?

Why would you mount to the shutter when you could just mount the iris to a sinar board? You probably need a little clearance behind the iris to mount many lenses anyway.

One side of the Sinar shutter appears to need something like a front standard to "lock" the board to the groove that board wants to fit into.

I'm trying to control weight, but at this point that might be moot, the shutter and iris clamp weigh a lot. I was also aiming to not move the lens lense any further away from the film.

What's the best solution, and cheapest, to attach a sinar board to the other side of the shutter?

That's what it looks like to me.

--He mounted a sinar lensboard backwards (inside-out) to his studio camera lensboard to act as a "base" on which to mount...

--the frame from a front or intermediate ('all-purpose' they're called sometimes) sinar standard

--the sinar shutter fits into that

--sinar lensboards fit into the shutter

I have always followed Sinar's guidance regarding mounting barrel lenses in front of the shutter.
The lens rear cell should be forward spaced, so that it is within 1mm of the Shutter blades.
I would NOT mount the iris to the shutter itself.

The two horizontal threaded rods in the Norma Auxiliary Standard are fairly easy to remove. Just remove the pins that hold them in.

Did the same once using a Sinar Auxiliary Standard to hold the lens board with the iris mounted on it. Behind the Auxiliary Standard a short bellows which was attached to either the Sinar shutter or the front standard. Trick was to balance the lens in the iris so as not to make it front heavy and over torquing the locks on the Auxiliary Standard. This solution does work in the end, which is what counts.

I've used P2, F1, F2 before but only have the flat rail Sinar now for comparison. I would like to know if the multipurpose standard for F series would work. Does the multipurpose standard come apart?

I'm thinking that would have more use as I can use it on a F1 or P system someday.
