Simple Lens Cap/Shutter for 6" Metrogon

I had an "Aha!" moment today...
I was messing around with my Metrogon project, and wondering how to avoid spending money on putting it in a shutter...when I looked over and saw a scrap piece of black plastic from TAP Plastics.
A few minutes with a Dremel, etc. And I came up with this:
    Attachment 201926Attachment 201927

I now plan on making a small aperture out of black paper for long exposures.....and then to test.
    Stay tuned.

Does yours not have an internal diaphragm? If I recall mine is set by turning a little brass gear, and I had to open it and chisel out a stop protruding from the casting to get it to open fully.

I have two that are complete with airplane shutters, and a mixed collection of elements, parts & center filters to experiment with.
I will probably donate the complete units to air museums at some point, once I find a parts setup for my LF photography that does what I want it to do.
I got the complete ones in order to determine spacing between front and rear groups.
The pics I attached are just for proof-of-concept.
I plan on making waterhouse stops out of thin black cardstock, or whatever, to find an aperture size that gives IQ I like.
I haven't tried to modify the shutter units...both have adjustable diaphragm, one has a "choke" to reduce max. aperture.
