    sekonic l-858d

Is anyone using the new L-858du as their spot meter. After 25 years my old meter has died and this appears to be the only new thing made. I am specifically wondering about readability of the touch screen in outdoor sunlight conditions.

edited to add the only available new meter that I can afford

Sekonic, Gossen, Kenko and Spectra all offer at least one current model with narrow-angle spot metering.

The screen is easy to see indoors but hard to see outdoors.
And the Resistive-type touch screen should be pressed with force, often not pressed well.
    I was very disappointed.

    Good and bad to know

I bought a Sekonic L-758DR in 2011, it works well but batteries and lens caps are troublesome

    I'll keep what I got

I replaced my Pentax digital spotmeter with the 758DR around 2017. Unlike the Pentax, the lens cap on the 758DR is attached to the meter with a cord so that you don't lose it and the cap itself doesn't become loose fitting from use like the Pentax. However it will eat the expensive battery if you leave it in the meter. I've learned to remove the battery ($10) after each outing and haven't had to replace a battery in over a year now.

Strangely(?), my L-758D doesn't eat battery.
So I always put the battery in the L-758D.

The battery does last long, but has died right when I need it too often

I carry spares now... as CR123A are not sold everywhere

I am experimenting with rechargeable CR123 as I can recharge in car

    So far so good

Hmm, I shoot often, but my L-758D's battery doesn't drain quickly.
Is this a problem for all L-758D?
